In April 2020, my novel THE ISLAND GIRLS was published by Bookouture. The following post tells the story of behind the book.
In October 2019, I travelled to Boston and Maine with my good friend fellow writer Becky Sweeney to research the settings for The Island Girls. The trip exceeded all expectations as the stunning Fall foliage and evocative landscape enabled me to excavate the story. The characters came alive on the beautiful island of Vinalhaven off the coast of Maine, and we holed up in a local writer’s cabin as we got stuck into our writing retreat.
I hope you enjoy our photographic diary and get a little taste for the settings and atmosphere of the novel.
First Stop was Salem – well if you know anything about me at all it will my passion for researching witch trials so an absolute MUST. Becky of course was inspired by her surroundings & took pen to paper!
Our next step was to go to Boston Bus Station and take a bus all the way to Rockland, a four hour coach ride up the coast of Maine. Arriving in Rockland, we spent the night in a maritime themed local hotel, and explored this very pretty coastal town. (Also very excited to find a laundromat in the hotel!)
